Quick little fun session today at Carter Lake with Paul Dusatko. We really didn’t get on too much other then a couple of warm-ups and Kahuna Roof stand and sit. It was absolutely beautiful at the lake today; sunshine, nice cool temps and a light breeze every now and then to cool things off. After a couple of fun warm ups we jumped on Kahuna Roof which is the ultra classic of the area and quite possibly one of the best V5’s in Colorado. (After reading a bit about the problem it appears a few of the holds have broken and the grade V6/7 now. I still feel like I have no frame of reference yet so I’ll hold off on giving my opinion) We quickly dispatched of the stand and started working the sit. The sit adds only two one and a half moves but the first move is extremely powerful. We both got extremely close to sticking the move but our skin was pretty thrashed and the right hand starting crimp was starting to grease up so we decided to call it a day. The past few days have been a very encouraging start to my season and I am looking forward to creating and sending many projects in the alpine this summer. Counting down the months till the snow melts off in RMNP and Mount Evans. Oh Mount Evans how I long for thee…

Glad you had such an inspiring weekend out. Hope this sets the tone for a great climbing season.

Indeed. The whole reason I moved to Colorado was to climb and to be able to enjoy the area as much as possible. Due to injuries and me needing a much needed break I didn’t get to do that for the first year I was here. I am like a kid in a candy store right now. So much rock, so little time.
