So lets just forget about the 9 months I've been absent and continue on with business (blogging) as usual. I promise I will provide an explanation post haste. Needless to say I will be trying to blog every day.
My amazing girlfriend, Elizabeth, bought me tickets to David Allen Coe which we went to last night. Now I haven't been listening to Coe for that long, since 2000 when my buddy Danny introduced me to him when we were roommates in the Marine Corps, but I am a huge fan. I mean who can't be a fan of a guy who sings about Whiskey, Women and Weed. Having not seen Coe live before I was of course somewhat excited, although I was aware of the fact that he is clocking in 69 years old these days. I say old and not young because you don't treat your body the way Coe did (see my prior statement about Whiskey, Women and Weed) and maintain the right to claim 69 years young. Anyways, we arrived at the Grizzly Rose just in time to hear the opening band for DAC, whose name I don't think I ever caught, covering a 4 Non Blonde's song. This was followed by more covers of Jamiroquai, Justin Timberlake and T-Pain. Keep in mind we were in a Honky Tonk packed with cowboys; the band wasn't exactly catering to the audience. As far as Coe's performance goes, he had his moments. Senior moments and rock star moments. Obviously his bodies degradation has had an affect on his vocals, timing, pitch, rhythm, crap just about everything. Despite his lackluster musical performance I will say this; the rebel inside of him was alive and kickin' and that was one thing that saved the show. I am glad I was finally able to see him live but I am even happier I was able to see the Outlaw still shining through even as he sang his crap collaboration with Kid Rock.
