So if you are reading this blog then you are probably already aware of my upcoming move, if not then let me bring you up to speed.

As of about 6 months ago it was my plan to move to Colorado, FOREVER. Well these plans got changed a little bit and I decided to move back to San Diego. I say “back” because I lived there from 2000 to 2004 while I was in the Marines. I was originally supposed to move to San Diego March 1st but this date got pushed back because the person I was moving to SD to be closer to decided not to move until September. Since I am not starting school till the middle of August this was the perfect opportunity to move to Boulder for the summer.

My love affair with Colorado began in the Summer of 2006 when I visited an old buddy from the Marines. I stayed with him in Fort Collins for 8 days and I had a blast. I instantly fell in love with the state and by the end of my first night was already making plans to relocate. This was all before I had even climbed in Colorado! Which I didn’t do at all that first visit. This past October I ventured over the Rockies again to visit my good buddy, soul brother and bouldering partner, Max. I stayed with him for 10 days and we used his dorm room at Colorado College as a home base for numerous climbing epics. I ate, slept and drank nothing but climbing for those 10 days and by the end of the trip I knew I HAD to move out there soon.

Well here we are 10 days out from the move date and things seem to be happening very quickly but coming together quite nicely. Here is the current situation.

Housing: Things are still in the works but I might have found a place around Goss/Grove. It is a 1 bedroom, which is more then I need, I originally was going to get a studio but the price is right and the location is perfect so I am hoping it all pans out. Everything I own will fit into 4, 45 gallon, tupperware bins. I am not taking any furniture with me because I want to keep it light and simple. Because of this my new place is going to be pretty barren for the first month or so. Even then I am not planning getting to crazy with the home decor.

Employment: I know one thing - I do not want to work during the month of March. Other then that I am totally open to employment opportunities. I really am not stressing it too much because I saved money with the intention of working as little as possible. I mean seriously, how much climbing can actually get done if I am spending all my time working. The whole point of this move is to climb as much as possible for 5 months!

Social: Number of people Ryan knows in Boulder - 0. I have no friends in Boulder but I really don’t think that is going to be a problem for a couple of reasons. Climbers, as people, for the most part are nice, outgoing and social. That coupled with the fact that bouldering is a very social sport I think I will be making friends and drinking pints in no time.

So what am I going to be doing in Boulder if I have no friends, no job and a very empty apartment? BOULDERING! Lots and lots of bouldering. I am hoping the lack of all those things will force me to venture out and explore the city as much as possible. I am very curious by nature so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Stay tuned and check back often for updates. If you see that I haven’t been posting, please, please, please say something to me about it because this blog is here for you, my friends and family.

It’s all fun and games until some one loses an eye… Just kidding! Sound like an ideal situation, for sure! There was a time when I lived in a little studio which really was my art studio/gallery/shop and slept on my crash pad which tucked away very nicely behind the front counter. (I have the Franklin mondo pad and I’m only 5′2″ so it worked.) Have fun and good luck! I’ll keep checking back as the story unfolds! lisa.
